10 Best Dog-Friendly Walks in Wellington | PAWGUST 2026

26 Jun 2026

Wellington weather can change in an instant. One moment it is calm and bright. The next, a cold southerly sweeps in with wind and rain.

Still, the walk usually happens anyway.

PAWGUST is a simple way to keep that habit going through winter. Every walk you take with your dog in August helps raise funds for Blind Low Vision NZ Guide Dogs. Whether you are aiming for 60km, 100km, or 125km, each step adds up to real impact.

This guide brings together 10 dog-friendly walks across Wellington. You will find easy seaside paths, quiet bush tracks, and steeper routes with wide harbour views. There is something here for every pace and every day.

You can choose your favourite spots, plan your routes, and build a weekly rhythm that works for you. It is a practical way to stay active and move towards your goal.

Walk for a cause, not just the kilometres

Join the Wellington Pack

Wellington is known for its strong community spirit. When the weather turns, people here do not stay inside. They lace up their shoes, pull on a raincoat, and head out to walk for causes that matter.

This August, PAWGUST is your chance to do the same. Every step you take helps support Blind Low Vision NZ Guide Dogs and the life-changing work these dogs do with people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision.
